I fly this beast since January. In ten months I crashed it only once. It prooved to be very reliable heli with some Align parts. If you type in Google "Gartt 800" you will find whole story of this project. Now I can do rainbows and tic-tocs with this 800.

I am not the only one. My friend Benji after reading my thread on Polish forum also built 800 based on Assault 700 kit. He also flown it for months without issues. Actually idea to stretch it to 800 was mine but Benji was first to maiden it with 800mm blades.

Idea was simple. Get cheap frame. Put $30 Align stretch kit including longer boom, TT and tail push rod.

I am using 4.2kW Gartt 700 motor and it is strong enough. Lately Gartt released stronger 4.5kW motor for just $50.

I was able to get this kit for $175 without canopy directly from Gartt. I ended up with four airframes. Two of them are now 800s and flying, one is flying with 700mm blades and one I keep in the box as a source of spare parts.

Those who said it is Chinese shiz were wrong. Actually NMB bearings used by Gartt are excellent.

To make this clone kit as good as Align you have to replace only swash plate and main gear.

In 800 I have more Align parts for piece of mind.

All is described in my earlier thread on HF. There you'll find photos, videos, whole story in details. In want to move my story from HF to HeliGods because I do appreciate your great attitude and open mindness.

Actually my thread on HF was second most often viewed thread in 800 electric subforum. Not many pilots wrote in my thread but many were following my story.

Greetings from Poland to all HeliGods "community".

I do not have any issues with this bird so probably this thread will be quite silent. If anything happens I will update and share my thoughts. I plan to fly it again tomorrow. Today weather is not nice. I love to fly it in strong winds but rain, cloudy and cold weather make me hesitate. Many hundreds of flights it already survived. I am quite confident it will survive next year.

My friend Benji with his 800:

I inspected 800 carefully. All repairs done. Tail hub had minimal play. Snail screw had to be tightened.

Tomorrow I plan day at field.

I consider 2S lipo instead of SBEC. Only in case of problems with SBEC.

YEP 20A served me flawless on few helis for over a year. I use it for convenience and weight saving.

I hope 800 will be fine for year to come...

It's good to know you have found the yep sbec to be reliable, I guess a back up is just extra point of failure, if your Bec is reliable.

Today reason of last malfunction became clear. Again I had to autorotate because stator in the motor "unglued" and in second flight motor pulled wires inside it disconnecting plugs.

I will disassemble this motor and decide if rewinding is required.

Fortunatelly no damage to the 800 was done. I do have replacement motor and expect Scorpion soon.

I do not blame Gartt because they recommend it for 700 not 800. It served well in 900 and definitely I will attempt repair and keep it.

Update: after motor disassembly wires and insulations seems intact. I was able to fix it easily myself. Just applied new shrinking tubes, fix stator with Loctite 638 and put it back together. :)

I added small pin to fix it stronger.

Motor was tested and works like brand new. :) Now it should not suffer this issues anymore. 30 min hand job. ;)

Now I know my motor much better. What struck me was bearings condition. After year of flying and hundreds of flights those NMB bearings are smooth like silk! Keep in mind this motor did not get very hot pushing 800 at 197km/h flight! I already love those bearings.

In my experience Scorpions bearings are not as good. I was using Scorpions in 550 and 600. Both of them were second hand. I will look closely at this new 700 Scorpion Ultra. It can have better bearings.

Again... keep in mind Gartt motor is $50 and Scorpion official price is $300...

I will compare them first hand in 800.

Update: flight tests at 100% throttle went very well. Officialy motor is still fine.

Assault flying over 190mph (over 300km/h):

      http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=31836469&postcount=1226

guldukat is flying at 2350 RPM with 14S setup.

He used RJX FBL blades from HobbyKing.

These are the stiffest blades I have ever used. The root is 64mm not the standard 60mm.

Got the batteries down to 3.6X. Not puffed yet but I do not wantto try that for 2mins."

Probably this is not fastest flight video:

Ahhh! I tried hard to unscrew the DFC head to lubricate thrust bearings on Assault and I just couldn't. So I said let's go and fly and pray nothing bad will happen.

Did you happen to use red loctite when you did the head? If so get a soldering iron and hold it there for a bit.. Then try again.. I tend to use a spanner with the driver for extra torque... had to do that when fixing a mates who used red... And I have also taken too using red loctite On the head as well

The head came pre built. I thread locked the arms to DFC rods and other smaller bolts but the 4.0mm hex to feathering shaft and rest of the stuff was so hard that I didn't unscrew it..

      Be carefull with Heligods.

For few days I was having troubles with editing and posting on Heligods.

Finally I used TOR to check if Internet connection between Europe and Australia is fine.

With TOR Heligods is fast like lightning.

They did not ban me but my access was highly restricted. I am pretty sure they play with my account and IPs limiting bandwidth. I will not spend hours to post short message on Heligods, sorry.

As long as I do not login Heligods works fine. After I login it stops working.

I repeated my experiment with TOR few times and used also LTE to make sure I am right.

There is one more thing. Admin Mark threatened me. He wrote that sponsors do not like what I do. It is OK to make laugh and call Gartt bad names but e.g. Goblin and TDR are untouchable.

It makes me pretty angry that sponsors have strong influence on content of private forums. It was the case on Helifreak. Now I have strong evidence it happens on Heligods. Is RC Groups last place without censorship?

Helifreak was aquired by RC Groups. If you want to know why type in Google "Helifreak ban". Check also this post and whole thread:
      http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...9&postcount=74

Forum owners seem to look after sponsors cash not after users. It is sad.

Never happened with me but the big question is what do you do on the net that requires TOR?

Then I guess they did.. Heat it up.. Use a spanner you can either put something through the handle.. Make sure it's a good tip and wrench... And hope you don't strip the screw... But either way if you don't it will eventually lock up and then your in trouble....

Well thanks. I hope it's loctited and greased also. I first thought about using heat but then I was afraid of damaging the rubber dumper. I'll try a quick heat with the soldering iron, and if it fails I will ask help to some guys at a car repair close to my house.

The use of heat works well with the type of loctite gartt use. It's a real cheap type that either stays gummy and doesn't do the job or it jams up real good.
My method is the same as manyc use a soldering iron or similar, but leave it on a while as your dealing with a larger thread and bolt and you will have to heat it all up. Then allow it to cool down, repeat this 3 times then get your wrenches back out and it should loosen off ok

      Or just fly it.

If its not coming off with plenty of tough love, its not going to come apart in flight.

Just pretend that any thrust bearing grease you would put in there will get pushed out by centrifugal force anyway so it makes you feel better.

No he is not banned, it should be fine. If the connectivity is bad the login may time out. Is there an error message?

If it's any consolation mine did have grease on them not much but they had seen grease, the feathering shaft however had threadlock only on one side that was working as threadlock.
I greased mine up and reassembled with loctite, if it hadn't come apart I would have left it alone
I hope utrinque returns he is a great source of info and a good help to fellow builders on forums.

Finally I succeded to log in. Sorry for my suspiciousness. I was banned from other forums in the past.

800 and 700 were flying at another funfly. I did not record my flights.

      Funfly:

No more waiting for lipo charging at home. This power generator is awesome. 1kW, 3.5l of automotive gasoline/8 hours.

Glad to see you back @utrinque , looks like you had an epic day. I am taking the HK challenge. I'm swapping out the castle 120HV and scorpion motor for a yep 120 and turnigy SK3 motor in my E6, I have trouble with my power system and through your input to this site, I'll give it a go....I might be asking some dumb questions and I'll give an honest feedback on how it goes.
