Of course, Irony arrives in a timely manner, along with the servos..... today, not long after that last post concerning said shipment. :D

Nostalgia strikes, no help from a recent incident that put my Protos down (eat $#it Crash, it was my own stupid mistake)......
Given the mass of spare parts I have accumulated over the last few years, CX-450SE (with low profile DFC mainshaft under non dfc head) is going through re-fit. Going for longer flight time with 15:1 main gear and 4000Kv motor that I bench tested to make sure it has highest rpm (efficiency) per voltage. If I can work out the channels, I might install a remotely releasable cargo hook for "bombing experiments" :D

Now that would be interesting! a remote cargo hook. You would be supprised how much the helis can lift.

I can already anticipate having to be quick on the collective upon releasing an underslung load, the heli will want to jump upward a bit. Right now, with the Faux-bar fbl, I have an extra channel assigned to tail gain with a pot on my radio to adjust it. If I can manage to assign it to the open output channel where I normally keep a capacitor, I could theoretically plug a servo in and use assign a switch...... otherwise I would have to go to flybar B450 and a 7-channel Rx to pull it off. (now thinking out loud)..... unless I can double bind with a separate RX. Once upon a time I did manage to double bind a NanoCPx and a 120Sr simultaneously. Its going to be interesting. I've dreamt of this little project years before I ever flew a heli....... call it a "bucket-list" project! :D

Heli-bomber........ It has to be done...... Its on the "bucket-list" of heli stuff....... Nobody around my area participates in such things...

So how is it going?? It would be an excellent sniping tool (ie waterbomb your friends barbecue) if you could integrate some drone stability and flight guidance and auto return to base software (like on the mavric g2 drone). I also think a heli could be more economical and faster if it were tuned for a lower head speed because its only one motor vs 4.

I've been off hobby for quite some time due to personal issues, and that one incident that took out the Protos finished me off for awhile.
I didn't remember this thread being 32 pages long!!
I finally hauled my birds out of mothballs a few weeks ago, CX450SEv2 is back in the air after a thorough rebuilding. The Protos isn't far from being ressurected either.
Life changes have me relocated in a more rural area, so I have plenty of airspace around me when I'm home.
      ...... anyway, I'm still going.....
      @Crashheligod ....... You still $u¢k.

      450 Sport.jpg

My 450 Sport is almost finished, maiden flight hopefully soon. I also have an XLPower Protos 380 to build.

      My Kit.jpg

I'm in this hobby just casually, but I have so many helis to build so little time. :(

Good to see you are back Beaver

      Ah, the cargo hook...... (thinking)......

That will have to be deployed on the B4503D of course. It's an old beater heli, but it still makes good for experiments like that, especially since I modified the frame to accept Align 150t main gears.

So... Flying CX450 again a few times now, after a thorough re-fit, almost feels like 5 years ago the first few times I flew it. :)

Nice! That Sport looks like the same frame as my Cx450Cx450, canopy and all.... in original form.
I'm about to re-fit my Protos as well. Going to Align type aluminum main grips.

      Yeah pretty much the same.

Unfortunately harsher Covid Lockdown has been put in place and I can't go for a Trim flight with this heli. No flying for awhile :(

Beaver I would love to have a Trim flight, but we got harsh lockdown covid restrictions atm. I hope they ease the restrictions soon. I'll try and make a video when the restrictions eases again.

Since these restrictions are in place. I thought I might as well start on building/rebuilding other helis. I will be upgrading my old trusty 450 Pro from 325mm to 360mm also 3S to 6S. Hope everything goes well

I have this original CopterX 450-SE from 6years ago back in the air after hanging from the ceiling by it's tail for a few years. I've been busy with planks, uh, planes for awhile. I was also thoroughly disgusted after the Mini Protos went-in..... It, and the remnants of a Blade 450-3D live on with their various surviving pieces having been used to build airplanes that can still STOL and hover on occasion as if to demonstrate their lineage.

A fresh setup on the Ikon with a round of new servos went well with only a few rounds of dialing in the tail gain.
I retired the old Align ESC I had been using for 6 years as I suspect it could have been a previous failure point. I can always use it on an experimental plane.
The current gearing of 3800Kv, 15:1 (150t:10t) allows running 3S at near 100% THR, or 4S at near 50 to 60% THR by way of Tx throttle curves at the 3 way mode switch on the TH9X I'm still using. I will be upgrading to a lower Kv motor and main gearing soon. The old motor is from the B-4503D, and it works fine, but seems a bit anemic even with the 15:1 gears.
I'll fly it as is for awhile though. It's dialed-in well enough for reacquaintance sake, and the gear lash is set nice and quiet for once, so I'd rather not disturb it for the moment than have to lash in a new set of gears.
Here are some pics of today's success. It's been awhile since I set one of these up.
      I suppose it's like riding a bicycle.....?
.....and I'm still keen on the cargo hook thing. I've done it with a drone. :D
