Multirotors seem to have gotten popular. Im not a good flyer but i and so figure 8s and inverted - well sort of. I brought a multirotor and played with it for a while - its ok but i got bored fairly quick with flhying and seeing the head from the tail was hard at distance. Do heli pilots ever abandon helicopters to fly multirotors? Has anyone here done that? I cant see how they compare for flying experience. So do new people buy multirotor, think flying can be not that great and never go to helicopters?

i fly the mutli rotors.. but its all about the FPV baby.. that is where I find I enjoy multirotors.. you never really see a lot of "I like to fly them LOS" unless they are the 3d kind... but for me.. multirotor is about fpv, the bigger the multi its more about going high and distance...

If you enjoy heli's.. probably the only thing that would attract you is fpv, flying full tilt low to the ground.. its awesome..

      ^+1 to that @Manyc.

My Hyper 3D is pretty cool to fly and I have the fpv bug now as well

I heard the FPV is not really good picture quality? is that true? I get headaches sometimes from staring at computer screens. but flying FPV sounds very interesting. Does it make you feel like you are actually flying?

Yes the FPV would really interest me. And the arial photography as well. To be able to take BVR shots of the horizon would be cool. Also the sensation of flying...

As I've said before, (opinion) Multi-Rotors are like the "utility vehicles" of the R/C world. People are coming up with progressively more uses for them, such as: Recently a drone was used to deliver a "life-line" rope to a motorist stranded in high water during one of the massive floods that have been occurring up here. It is true that multis are becoming more popular, some think they are the future of R/C. Who knows?

Flying a 250 size FPV quad is a hoot, especially low to the ground & in & around trees (as pointed out above by @Manyc).
It's quite different to flying helis.
I'm trying to organise some racing locally since a 250 really doesn't break if you crash it unless you're racing in a shopping centre car park.

Ha! Well I'm not good/brave enough for that yet. At least Lumenier now make a double thickness carbon base for the QAV250 especially for car park racing.

Totally agree that FPV is what quads are best for , zooming around low to the ground

I have given multirotors a shot. Never owned one myself, but I have flown several belonging to friends. The ones I have flown include the Curtis Youngblood Stingray, the Invertix, and a few of the Blade 350QX quads. I have to say that they really didn`t do thing for me, and I got bored very quickly. FPV does not interest me at all, but the FPV quad racing I have seen on youtube seems like it could be fun.

I have several Multirotors... Made my own tricopter about 4 years ago when there were about 2 controller boards to choose from and none had self levelling then... now there are hundreds to choose from...

I ended up using a skookum sk720 flybarless gyro on it as an experiment and worked ok for the times...

My first quad was a home made frame as well.. then tried one of the first hobbyking quad frames that disintergrated into match sticks on the first crash, lol...

Now have a sky-hero spyder 700 with wookong and ground station, a blade 350qx and an invertix 400 3D Quad

Multirotors are one of those things you either love or hate - there are a few people in between but most are either for or against...

250 fpv racing is once thing I've got to get into :)

This video is very good... funny as well. Drones everywhere! I wonder if anyone got hurt in the making of that clip. Being struck by a drone can be nasty if the blades are big or sharp enough

The safety issue has crossed my mind. I'm wondering if there are any multi-rotors using ducted fan systems instead of the usual rotor systems. Seems like DF would be a bit safer especially around populated areas where commercial drones might be used.
