I fly this beast since January. In ten months I crashed it only once. It prooved to be very reliable heli with some Align parts. If you type in Google "Gartt 800" you will find whole story of this project. Now I can do rainbows and tic-tocs with this 800.

I am not the only one. My friend Benji after reading my thread on Polish forum also built 800 based on Assault 700 kit. He also flown it for months without issues. Actually idea to stretch it to 800 was mine but Benji was first to maiden it with 800mm blades.

Idea was simple. Get cheap frame. Put $30 Align stretch kit including longer boom, TT and tail push rod.

I am using 4.2kW Gartt 700 motor and it is strong enough. Lately Gartt released stronger 4.5kW motor for just $50.

I was able to get this kit for $175 without canopy directly from Gartt. I ended up with four airframes. Two of them are now 800s and flying, one is flying with 700mm blades and one I keep in the box as a source of spare parts.

Those who said it is Chinese shiz were wrong. Actually NMB bearings used by Gartt are excellent.

To make this clone kit as good as Align you have to replace only swash plate and main gear.

In 800 I have more Align parts for piece of mind.

All is described in my earlier thread on HF. There you'll find photos, videos, whole story in details. In want to move my story from HF to HeliGods because I do appreciate your great attitude and open mindness.

Actually my thread on HF was second most often viewed thread in 800 electric subforum. Not many pilots wrote in my thread but many were following my story.

Greetings from Poland to all HeliGods "community".

I do not have any issues with this bird so probably this thread will be quite silent. If anything happens I will update and share my thoughts. I plan to fly it again tomorrow. Today weather is not nice. I love to fly it in strong winds but rain, cloudy and cold weather make me hesitate. Many hundreds of flights it already survived. I am quite confident it will survive next year.

My friend Benji with his 800:

She is exceptional. Worth to listen to this interview.

Not many. Over a year ago Goblin fanboys banned me from this forum were I was a moderator.

They told me my Chinese piece of shiz will not survive high RPMs. It does. Year and a half later I am still flying it. Today I was testing brand new Scorpion motor. It has no more power than Gartt motor but gets noticably hotter. I like it because it is relatively quiet.

Dunkan Bossion is using the same motor Scorpion 4525-520Kv Ultimate in his X7 ;)

Today all day in the field. Windy day. When I saw this I relised it is good way to demonstrate quality of NMB bearings in Gartt/Assault kit:

Wind started to rotate 700mm blades. I did not touch them. They kept rotating for over 2 minutes.

Keep in mind this heli is frequent flyer for over 1.5 years. I did not grease the bearings at all, ever.

Another happy owner wants to stretch Assault to 800:

25000 is alot of views!.. Good to get commendation from other users who use it. Is there any videos of this guy flying it?

      Not yet.

Actually 25000 is not much comparing to 700 threads at e.g. rcgroups (over 90 pages!), but:
      - we talk about 800 subforum in which my thread has more views than Trekker threads
      - thread is dead since I was banned by Will James year ago, but pilots still read it

Still my favourite video Jan Erlebach:

      New Assault's videos on Youtube:

      Assault in Asia:

      Older video:

      Jesse Mccall "needs help":

Cause of vibrations is simple. Blades are not straight at 700RPM. Centrifugal forces are to weak to straighten them at this RPM. Probably blades are tightened in blade grips to strong.

He should go to the field and apply at least 50% of the throttle. Vibrations will dissapear.

Wow Kyle Stacy is also using Scorpion 4525-520 Ultimate, (same as I have in Gartt 800 :) ) in this video:

Ha ha Kyle is a Scorpion factory pilot, so of course he is using the 4525-520 ULT. It's one of the best 700 motors on the market.

I will probaly keep Scorpion in 800. I will put Gartt motor into X7 I got today.

I did not use termometer but Scorpion seems hotter after flight.

Gartt survived year and a half in 800 so I hope X7 will not burn it. Gartt has higher kV so fitts 700 better.

Scorps can be known to run a little warm.

Agreed. It is my this Scorpion. I use them in X5, 600 and 800.

Temperatures upto 200 deg C should not have detrimental effects on Scorpion magnets nor on wires I suppose.

200 deg C is getting pretty bloody hot. The windings are only rated at 180 deg C. What temps are you actually getting?

      I did not use termometer.

Temperature inside motor is crucial, but we usually measure superficial temperature.

I can touch motor after flight. I can not keep it. I am pretty sure there is safety headroom.

I generally use the rule of thumb for surface heat that if you can touch and hold then it's <70-75 deg C. Touch and hold briefly then >75 - <95-100 deg C. Too hot to touch >100 deg C.
I know sweet fa about thermal dynamics, but it may not be unreasonable to assume the internal temp could be up to 25% higher than the surface temp??

I received $148 RootStar (YEP) 180A HV ESC

Do not worry red LED is visible:

      Thank you @Busher :)

I did not notice this post earlier. I hope Busher did not change his mind in the mean time. ;)

I did not after flying Gaui X7 Formula :D
