Since 2011 I got some experience with this tinny chopper. Now three of them are in my fleet.

    My favourite setup:

    - $9 CF frame - since 2011 and thousands of flights I broke it only once
    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...rbon_Fiber_Main_Frame_Side_Set_2pcs_bag_.html

    - Kbar gyro - it makes the difference, $26 on eBay with free world wide shipment you can not be unhappy, my friend having many Vbars mini and full size preferes Kbar over mini Vbar for some reason (not price related)

    - Bluetooth Vbar dongle is a must. Experiment with gyro setting. Keep in mind with slider you can increase agility value upto 120. Manually over 250! I use 200 and it is fun to flip twice a second.

    - after checking many different motors I settled on this one for 3S setup:
    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__8616__Turnigy_450_Brushless_Heli_Motor_2830_3500kv.html
Put upper bearing on Loctite 638 and forged about any issues with motor. It has plenty of power. Now only limitation is your lipos C rating. Use 40C or more to smack on 50% throttle. 100% becomes insane.

    - I should start with servos... TGY 306G HV (those are rebranded KST sevos) are way to go! Do not bother with providing high voltage. Finally we have relatively cheap, fast, precise, strong, virtually unbreakable servos for 450.

    - YEP 40A is enough, YEP 45A will handle all your sick ideas

    - blades... now this becomes interesting topic. First you have many options:
    - 325mm (I uce cheap $4 glass fiber, because CF break in crash anyway) since 2011 only once blade broke in flight
    - 335mm those my favourites now... no need for longer tail, noticable difference in handling
    - 360mm - I will stretch to 360 or 380 I have no experience yet but this is good idea to use them
    - 380mm - yeah babe, Tarot is going to release 480 stretch soon! Just compare weight with Goblin 380. Are you kin of low RPM? I am. Will we need stronger front umbrellas? I am sure upgrades will appear.

    - canopy is matter of taste. I prefer $4 plastic over glassfiber due to lower weight and overall comfort. They are tough enough, I ordered few $6 canopies from Assault 450 for better looks.

    - tail servo... Corona DS-319HV is cheap, digital, metal gears, strong 4.2kg/cm, fast 0,05 sec/60deg, in my case never failed, virtually unbreakable... Do you need more?

    - head I use $14 DFC or $7 FBL heads. I did not notice any difference in flight. Both work great. DFC is harder on servos in crash but 306G can handle this. DFC has better looks... your choice.

    - tail slider. I use Align new design double support. Mainly for looks. I did not notice performance diference comparing to older design... your call.

    - CF tail push rod

    - Align Ball links and push rods

    -
last but not least MSH Gorilla 450 landing gear is must have upgrade. I called it unbreakable but today I succeded to slightly break Orange one before I took it from plastic bag! It is still usable without repair. Anyway I had black and yellow in the past which survived 4 years of endless crashes While I was learning to fly.

There are so many upgrades available on eBay that it is hard to check all of them.

I love this heli. Recently I setup three of them and enjoy agility, cheap lipos, cheap parts.

450 PRO is far less reliable than any 600, 700, 800 but...

I think learning with 550 or 600 is better idea than with 450. Better pilots can fly smaller and smaller helis without crashing them.

Now watch this video. Look what can be done with Tarot clone if you have skills:

Crashed? Who cares? He is the owner of this shop: rcforever.pl and friend with Tareq ;)

This heli is unbeatable in bang fot the buck department. Full stop. Heavy? So stretch it to 380mm! Low power? Get 6S setup!

Dominator 450L has slightly different frame but the same drive train. It can perform:

I want 450 PRO to fly like 450L:

Probably I will try longer 450L tail boom, TT, tail pushort rod and 360m blades. My 3S setup can accept 4S lipos so no need for 6S.

When I look close at 450L frame I do not see any reason why 450 PRO can not perform like 450L. Actually stretched 450 PRO will be lighter.

Polish pilot Marcin Tymiński stretched 450 and lowered its weight (recorded 2.5 years ago):

I have spoken with Marcin and he said umbrella gears can handle stretch.

My new favourite 450 PRO canopy:
(Barbie plastic is fantastic ;) )

I like the looks, low weight, elasticity, preinstalled rubber gormets, each one was packed in separate plastic bag:

My 450ies are not particularly low weight. I started to think about building/converting one with focus on low weight.

      Mine are now (without lipo):
      638g
      673g
      676g

      I fly now with 185g lipos (blue Zippy 3S 2.2Ah 40C)

I can achieve lower weight by using:
      - 1.2mm CF frame
      [IMG]
      - shortening ESC motor cables
      - shortening servo wires
      - using Align screws with small "heads"
      - using CF tail blades
      - remving horizontal stabilizer

      Selecting based on weight comparison:
      - tail mount (alu vs plastic)
      - tail boom (some clone tails have thinner walls, are weaker but lighter)
      - FBL vs DFC head
      - different tail sliders
      - ceramic bearings (?)
      - ...

I do not want to weaken frame or any parts. Before I start I'll try to check results of other low weight setups on the web.

I wonder if results are worth the additional effort...

You can get performance similar to the 450L by simply upgrading to 6S. Just make sure you use the new style black main gears to make sure everything can handle the extra power.

I have flown very high current draw 3S helis that size but they just don't have the punch of the 6S setups.

Some "CF" frames are in fact fibreglass with very thin layers of carbon sandwiched in between. Just be careful when you get really cheap CF frames cause it might not be what you think it is.

This frame was $14.3 before sale. I am pretty sure it is CF. I will check and let you know.
