Done deal! I finalized payment on my stretched Mini Protos airframe..... my first real non-clone heli, and only $150 with SAB blades, and some aluminum upgrade parts! It should ship tomorrow. I've already been reading up on things and looking for parts at various online sites. This bird won't be in the air immediately as I plan to get better quality electronics for the thing, which may take a few weeks or so.
Next stop- download the manual and do more reading. :D:D 20160806_181311.jpg thumb-20160806_181329.jpg thumb-20160806_181404.jpg thumb-20160806_181416.jpg

Awesome machine... one of the best flyers for its time. So long as you dont put in Huge power (imo) its is just incredible. It will still handle big power though. Take my advice.... 6s and stretch kit. If you want a 6s motor i can send one over for you. turnigy6s batteries (1300ma) are plenty cheap and provide great power all the way to the end. Because of the better efficiency your batteries will last longer... i promise! Everything works better on 6s....

Excellent... another victim! I cant wait to grab this one out of the sky. @smakmeharder has denied me of miniprotos ever since he moved over to the tasty goblin. I love the miniprotos, i have a special section in my graveyard dedicated just to this very helicopter.

      A-ha! You contradict yourself @Crash Heligod !
      Your own words:
"I despise Mini Prostates... The only 450 that I have seen crash into the ground, 3 times by my close friend @@Steve Richterand then be flown immediately afterwards! Ridiculous!"

How ya like me now? :p

Since I'm going 6S with this one, I'll probably end up converting my other two 450s to 6S as well. My last 3S pack died a slow death from the last crash it was in.

After sitting down long enough to actually inspect this Protos thoroughly, I am not disappointed.... It is nicely designed. My compliments to the Spaghetti-heads! :D

I find myself in the process of furthering my education in the use of ESC governor function. Still getting familiar with the computerized radio, I didn't realize the programmable throttle curves on idle-up 1 and 2 need to be set flat when using a governor. This will all come into play when I finally get the Mini P up and running, as I don't intend to run it full-out at 3600 HS. (6S/ 1300Kv/ 15:120 or 8:1)
An 85% flat curve on idle-up 2 will put HS close to 3000 if I did the math correctly.
Meanwhile, I installed 11t/121 gears on the CX450 and set the gov. to 80% to see how well it works in the RCE-BL45X. Best to use the old clone for these little experiments..... no worries if something should go wrong. :D

I didn't intend to throw the topic in that other thread, so I'll drag it back over here @Geena and @smakmeharder.
I'm actually biased toward the micro-Ikon at the moment, as it is developed in a cooperation by MSH and BK, it has mostly the same functionalities and connectivities as the mini Vbar, it has a self-leveling (bailout) function, and I'm seeing them for $99 at reputable online distributors.
The mini V-Bar.... same as what I'm already familiar with, except its genuine Mikado which means its open for firmware/software updates, and I see them online for $75 to $150 or so "used".
I know nothing of the Cgy750.... I'll have to read up on that one.
      Edit-
I see the CGY750 is not directly compatible with Spektrum satellite receivers. That's a big no-no for me.

so take with a grain of salt that the Brain was developed with BK. This was only a 1 day thing and it has changed much since then. The micro ikon is a good unit, but I do not think I would like to have the small wires on a 450 class heli, tho I guess is would be ok if not pushing it hard...

also with the release of the brain v2, you should be able to get a cheap v1 soon... I would hold off to that...

yes the cgy only supports Futaba.. the other option is to try something along the lines of a spartan... but I would go the Brain/Ikon... https://www.amainhobbies.com/msheli-brain-flybarless-unit-msh51600/p227821

This means that it can also be used to for a larger heli... it will also have internal gov, which the micro ikon will not have..

I have not been a fan of the mini v... but people love it.. so could be well worth a look. tho it does not have a recovery...

To be fair, @Manyc has had a bit of experience with many gyros and he does investigate many of the features of each FBL and understands the pros and cons of each unit. So yes i would put faith in what @Manyc says @Beaver.

Right... I knew mini V-bar has no recovery.
I see the Brain V1 is down to $129...... game changer there. I was originally intending to try to use as close to "original spec" equipment as possible, so the Brain FBL being less expensive will help. You're right about those smaller micro-Brain connectors, and now that I've taken a closer look, having to use those micro-JST to JR adapters would make the wiring a bit cumbersome if not redundant.
I just now noticed the Ikon seems to be a re-branded Brain, and there is also a version called TracX by Compass?? This definitely warrants further investigation. :D

Both ikon and tracx are rebadged brains.. Also with the micro ikon you will have to add the cost of the coverters to the price..

The gov on the brain and Spartan are very nice...

Okay, so I think ill give the Brain/Ikon V1 a go..... now to catch one on sale.
A clone is one thing, but I just can't rationalize putting a K-Bar on the Protos. I want this one right. :D

Yep, clones have their place and you have gone through the process exactly the recommended way - learn on the clones then progress to something better. You can still have your clone as a beater however. Once you fly the minip and have her dialed in you will feel a big difference and i defintely recommend a brand name gyro as well. The difference between the cost of a clone and brand name gyro is only one serious crash....

Two beaters and one good heli..... that should pretty much insure that I always have something to fly. (not counting the micros)

The dead give-away about the Brain/Ikon/TracX association was seeing that there was an Android App that services all three versions, and that Brain and Ikon both sell the same option packages in both V1 and V2 series. It becomes fairly obvious that they are the same having seen the evidence. :D
