Well, I got a chance to fit and try out the Xnova motor in my Mini Protos, (6's setup) All i can say about these motors is WOW ! They will dominate the market, You get what you pay for, They are top quality thru and thru , Ticking all the box's of what we have all wanted for our Heli Motors.. Worth every extra cent you pay for them. In fact i want to upgrade all my heli's to Xnova's, they are just that good !

    Why you ask, Well ...
    • More flight times, (In some cases)
    • Super kewl temps, (less heat)
    • Very efficient
    • Easier on the packs
    • Quality winding
    • Quality Bearings
    • Look Sexy !

More flight times, I get about an extra 15 - 20 sec's out of my packs, doing the same flight i would do with the Scorp motor.

Low temps, The motor is barely warm after doing a full pack of nothing but ticks tocks, Other motors are red hot after this, (untouchable in fact) Also the packs are not roasting hot like they where in the past, they are only luke warm, So this means the motor bearings will last a lot longer and also the packs, as they are not working so hard.

Very efficient, I got hold of some cheap crappy 6's hobby king packs, that have had a hard life and even though the head speed was lower (because they where shiz packs) it still would not bog ! I must say i was amazed beyond belief, the same packs would not even spool up the scorp motor enough to get it off the ground, These packs with the Xnova where more than capable, even with tick tocks, No bogging.. Just proving that the Xnova is super efficient.

Pulling apart the Xnova, The quality of the build is better than anything i have ever seen. And it looks dam sexy to boot !

I noticed that the power delivery is very constant, i have not seen that in any other motor, No peaks or drops off, great for deck work as the heli is a lot more predictable, with a very smooth transition throughout the power train. One of the biggest +'s i reckon.

I really cant say enough about the Xnova's, Yer they cost more, but DAM! they are worth every cent. You will really notice a big difference if you grab one of these bad boys, I have no doubt they will become the motor of choice for a lot of people.

Fitting one to a Mini P , VERY small frame mod needed, Just over 1 mm, needs to be shaved off to fit it up snug in the frame where the motor hits the frame just below where you tighten up the motor bracket, A very small mod that would have no effect frame strength at all. So small infact that a few strokes of a flat file is all that's needed, Don't let that put you off for a second ! The other good thing is they are available with a shaft already fitted to suit the mini P (Diagram B , Below) :)

I really dig these motors and will be fitting out the whole fleet ! Do yourself a favor and grab one !

At 1:54 on this video http://www.heligods.com/threads/the...-your-heli-video-thread.849/page-2#post-22730 you will see a small psycho. Normally the entry is faster and the trick is slightly elongated but you will get the idea. Best to perform the trick with a tail wind rather than a head wind as well. Next time i am out i will see if I can shoot some footage for you! When performing this trick on a larger heli i allways get the butterflies.

Pretty sure theres a protos shaft.

If its 3.5mm pinion its the A shaft you'll need

Yes its shaft B, the longer shaft.

I just flew my mini protos for the first time with the new xnova motor. Compared to the stock 6s Motor the following are the most obvious differences:

The packs i am using are nanotec 1300ma, very old and would start to bog out during aerolin tick tocks after about the third cycle. They also would allways finish with 20 - 27% after a solid flight.

I also had one new Zen RC 1800ma pack and one Gens Ace 1400.
Both these packs would easily make 3 mins, infact the Zen 1800ma pack would go to 4 minutes without a problem.

I thought i would start with the old clapped out nanotechs.

Now remember i used these packs while trialing a scorpion motor and as soon as i pitch pumped the ESC would trip out due to excessive current draw causing low voltage. I am using the exact same ESC with the same settings.

      First Flights - 10 packs

A Huge increase in power that just keeps presenting. I could aerolin tick tock for at least 30 cycles - no bogging. It felt like a bigger helicopter.

Pogos were much qucker of course because my head speed was slightly faster than the stock heas peed at 16 tooth.

But one attribute i was most impressed with was the ability to hold RPM throughout. There was slight dropping during hard ticktocks to wards the end of the pack but thats it.

After a HARD really hard 3d flight there was 19 - 24% left in the pack. So more power was used on the old packs BUT the power difference was incredible.

The temperature of the motor was warm to touch (I flew pack after pack in 30 degrees) but nothing like the stock motor it just replaced. The other stock motor would burn my fingers after about the 3rd flight... and that was on a average day too.

So yes as expected the Xnova performed very well.....If you fly your miniP often then this motor is a great addition.

You gotta try the 1860kv xts it is mental I think it has a few more killerwasps than the one you have but I think the kv is wrong for the miniP

Wrong kv for the mini... You would need a 5t pinion... haha

I did not think the performance would be so good with my shiz packs..... thats what astounded me most. With the new ZEN pack 1800ma I tried, it was really incredible. So I am a very happy camper ATM...

did you have to do any mods to fit the motor in or any issues?

Easy mod.. Takes a couple of minutes to file a tiny indent just below the motor support tray. I will upload a photo for you.

Okay here we go.... @Finky. These are some shots of my Mini P... Note the slot just under the motor mount. This allows the can to fit. very easy mod.

Wow you guys make this helicopter sound as if it is gold. Isnt the design a bit old now? Also I hear the frames crack a bit. But one things for sure the xnova is gaining a reputation.

Yep it's an older design... but it flys awesome... never cracked a frame on it.. and I have crashed aplenty... to be fair a few of us have invested in lynx upgrades that have improved tail performance and the lynx solid pinion..

It's a great little heli and I suppose it just shows that none of us are even looking at replacing it with another heli...

Wouldn't the Orange stuff weigh the helicopter down and make it fly slow?

For me personally @joffa13 the orange stuff weighs only a few grams. I am a weight nazi in many aspects but the extra visuals help in poor light. As for flying slow, you would have to ask others who see me fly weather its slow or not. I cant judge, i am behind the sticks... :)
