So I`m flying my 550E at the local field today, and after about four flights...the tail starts wagging violently during fast backward flight. At first, I thought maybe the gain was too high. So I lowered it a bit, and that made it much worse.

I set it back to where it was before, and went through the rudder setup on the AR7200BX. I reset the whole rudder setup, re-centered the servo, and the wagging remained.

So I put the 550 away for the day, and flew the 600N. About and hour ago, I decided to dig into the 550 a little more, and what did I find? I had forgotten to pin the tail boom the last time I crashed it, and the boom had slid out of the transmission about 1cm.

I pushed it back in and this time, made sure it was pinned and tightened up. Tomorrow I will fly it again and hopefully that solved the problem.

I feel kind of stupid for allowing that to happen, but I`m sure glad I found it before it slipped all the way out in flight. That could have been very ugly.

For some added protection you can do this:

      Scotch tap on tail boom.jpg

There's no way the boom can slide out if the stab mount can't slide and it can save a bent boom in a crash, as well.

Another thing to check Geena is the gear on the main shaft that drives the tail gears
that it is tight. Hold that gear and buy grabbing the head twist the head and check there
is no slop on the gear. That can make the tail do weird twitching as well.

Well wait to you here what happen to me today @Geena with my E7se. I did a few flights with boys and on my last flight Luke pointed out to my main gear, as it was now about 5mm thinner. With about 7 people trying to work out why and pushing up and down on the main gear which was moving about 15mm each way. We couldn't work it out so I just had to pull it apart, turns out the bottom bearing support had about a 15mm bend in it which with all the movement broke the sleeve in the oneway allowing the gear to move up and down.

      Very lucky we found it.

Yes @Geena, Crash i am sure would have had a field day with that one! It is lucky you found it. Did you have your crash pardon on you? that might have explained it!

Yes, I had my crash pardon. I never EVER approach the flight line without it. :) It most definitely helped me escape Crash`s icy grip. :D The helicopter is flying like it`s old self now that the boom is properly mounted.

Oh my! Yes, very good catch there. That could have gotten very ugly. I`m glad you caught it before Crash got word of it. :)

The gear mesh is good...no slop in there at all. pushing the boom back into place and putting the pin back in solved it. I put 12 flights on it this morning, and it`s flying perfectly again. :)
