So those who own a quad copter, what are the main attractions? They look awesome to fly! How different are they to flying a RC helicopter? Are they two totally different beasts? not comparable? Please explain! I might get one!

I have flown a few of them. The Blade 350QX, DJI Phantom, and the Curtis Youngblood Stingray. They felt (and this is just my own opinion) just too easy and generic. Although is was kinda cool to be able to do inverted flight with the Stingray, it did not do much for me. So I don`t see one being added to my hangar in the foreseeable future, unless I were to develop an interest in aerial photography.

You are right Geena they are to easy to fly orentaion is a little difficult when it gets far away. I find it boring as bat shiz flying it around buy just line of sight. BUT PUT FPV ON and man I tell you it's a tottaly a whole new experience it is sooooo much fun. It's the only way I fly mine I think I done 2 test flights with no goggles on and the rest have been fpv. I even have 2 sets of goggles so I can take a "passanger" along for a ride. Everyone that goes for a spin love the ride. As for flips and tricks with a quad to I think that's best left to the other helis we all fly I reckon. But I will still watch someone doin that stuff.

CBF posting video I don't even record what I do cause you only watch it once and that's after you have done
It and never watch it again and no one else really appreciate ' s it as much as you so I don't bother. All
My flights are stored in my head. Lol

The FPV is where its at by the sounds of things. So a good quality video receiver/transmitter and HD googlies is critical to enjoying the flying experience?

YES my friend it is. Don't know about HD goggles cause Fat Shark still haven't released them yet.
But the Dominator goggles are ace. Also Bjay415 has the predators and they are good to.
Most definitely FPV it the bomb man. BANG!!!!!!!!!

I was also keen to see what all the fuss on quads was about so I bought a DJI 450 Fame Wheel.
Like the saying goes "chalk & cheese" the quad flys itself, lol.
I think just about anyone could be flying a quad around within a few hours of getting one.
For me, no where near the same adrenalin rush as you get with Heli.

TO right mate the only way to get that "RUSH" is to go tree dodging with goggles on.

Yeah, I might have to give that a go, to many rules with MAAA though.

Rules yes they can be a party pooper. But I think if you run a 25mw transmitter you should be allowed to fly at your local club
You may require a spotter and you should be right mate.

Yeah, not much more than a big open paddock to fly in though.
I've got a bit of room out the back with a few trees, that might be worth a try.
You guys are always coming up with ways to spend my money

Lol. We have the same deal at our club. So I go down to a local park and there is a bunch of trees that
are 3 to 4 meters high and I just race around there its so much fun.
Ps I couldn't think of anything better to spend your money on. Lol

Also if you speak to the guys at ARK they should be able to do you a cheap deal. Just
speak to a nice guy in there I think you know him I think his name is Nate. Lol

Yes do listen to @5Fidy , fpv is what quads are made for ,loads of funn .
If you want to do photography you need a
hex or octo rotor and big big bucks.

I think I might know the guy of which you speak, and yes, I think he is a nice guy
I will call the guys at ARK and do a little homework.
I'm guessing the Gods don't like quads that much, they do seem to be somewhat immune to there destructive powers. I might look into the possibility of a disguise for my E7 to try and fool them XD
