OK been flying for a little while now and i am just starting to get inverted (scary but fun). Without disclosing to much I am older than your average pilot. But i really like how 3d helicopter move - you feel so good when you get that new move down. Realistically i would love to fly like some of you guys here - but the question is How? Is there such a thing as being too old for 3d and if so why?

I totally agree, the learning is the fun and exciting bit by far

Thats so true simon.. When people are learning new tricks or just flying near their limit and trying to grow, I can watch with great interest - at any level. Infact I would rather watch a beginner learning figure 8s than watch a pro pilot fly a trusted and proven routine that he knows backwards and is not really pushing himself... There is something about the human spirit of endevour that captures my attention.

Agreed, a figure 8 by a new pilot is more exciting than a practised routine by a great pilot, you just hope they will make it, and feel their excitement with them

      And i kno
And i know it might even sound crazy, but sometimes i crack open pheonix and use the sports hall because its really restrictive. Then do figure 8s upright or inverted as slow as possible - totally opposite to how i usually fly - and would you believe it, get a rush from the challenge! Then if i am really on the sticks try piroetting while doing the figure 8 in the school hall slowly!...Then after that try a smak routine in the school hall... its alot of fun...

THAT'S why you are a good pilot, always pushing yourself, not content with circuit work

I too am part of the over 50 crowd, and a fellow pilot is 70+. Dunno how far I'll get, but flying helicopters will always be a challenge for me. Keeps me from getting bored.

I dont think 50 would be an issue. Plenty of 3d pilots up to their 60s. If you were 65+ then i think reflex might come into it - maybe.
