I'll do the most quantitative test I can think of, full measurements, blade flex and rate them out of 10 for a range of maneuvers (all standard). I just need to buy a set of Rails as my last pair somehow got broken! (along with my boom and landing gear). I'll do it on the EVO as well, it's more of a test on a bigger heavier heli - more contrast

I'll do the 690 - 700 sizes, maybe the 710-716's later. It should be fun. We should organize the experiment to do on the same day when we can both hook up, so you can fly the set as well and rate them, that way we'll have a replicate.

I have Curtis Youngbloods, SAB's Halos and will get Cyclones and Rails before the test, so 5 sets. I'll also weigh each blade, look at variance (to the mg), and pion of balance as well.

Since your doing that size if we catch up I have some rails 696 and black line 3ds

 

we will formulate a plan (at HH15) to get together and do a robust test (as much as we can make it). I was also thinking we video some flights and go and talk to some professor that knows about heli aerodynamics.

For sure! that would be fun... We could do a structured test perhaps? IE speed run, Tic Toks, piro flips, pogos, hurricanes... Each trick tests a different aspect of the heli..

 

And as well each pilot can then put a score beside their chosen "test" routine... Each pilot can then have their own opinion and mini write up of like/dislike. So we could have a few pilots providing results rather than just one!

 

Absolutely, I would suggest that the more skilled pilot would work the blades harder, that's not a huge step. We will incorpetrate both subjective (how it 'feels' in FF, tricks etc) and objective measures, like how much sound is made when the heli walls at one spot. Maybe look at the frequencies produced, It will be fun. The overall rating would provide two things, i) overall blade score with pilot ability as a co variate, to ii) the blade scores based on pilot ability. In the end, it's what the pilot likes to fly, what color blades match his canopy etc etc. We will talk experimental design at HH15, it should be a fun experiment
