Hi all you Knowledgeable folk out there in Heligods land

    I need some help....

I am having a major problem with a heli. When I plug the stick into the heli the pack shorts (like welds the ec5's together). I am thinking the esc, as a recent crash separated the two boards (castle 120HV), you could smell the ozone (that funny electrical smell - an allotrope of oxygen - O3) when the unit was opened. Is there anything else I should look at (like could a poked motor cause this?, shorted power lead to the fbl?) Any way to check these problems?
I am thinking to throw another esc on it and see what happens, is this a worthy plan - crash can't get it if I can't take off!!!

Im not so sure @Beaver. Sometimes electrical pyrotechnics are great entertainment value. Heres a quick catch phrase for ya.....'On the ground or in the air if its an RC Heli you better beware!!!' Muah ha ha ha....

Oh yes, those kind of things can be entertaining. Speaking of electrical pyrotechnics, what do you get when you cross 2 60,000 volt high tension lines with a supernaturally animated skeleton?

Not what I was after, but still accurate. What do you get after that?

The easiest way to check it is to unplug everything from the ESC & then plug in a low voltage battery (such as an old NiMh receiver battery). If it short circuits it's not so much of a problem.
It does sound like it's the speedy though.
