Thats right! Kyle Stacy is going to be gracing the flying fields in Melbourne during October!

This is exciting news announced and co-ordinated by @zen-rc and will be something for all heli pilots to look out for in the coming months. There is no set place for a venue so provide a vote to give some direction.

Honestly it has to be either Wagga or AFF... For this kind of a thing you are going to want a 3 day event.. which means MRCHC is out of it... also you want night flying and camping and all that good stuff... And seeing Wagga is 6hrs vs 20min, I vote AFF

Initally it was a joke, but the suggestion of Ararat was brought up.
I'm not sure how the members of the Ararat club would feel about this but nothing a short conversation with their members and president couldn't determine.
Ararat flying club field is one of the best 'locally' that I've had the pleasure of flying at.
The flight line is enormous and there is also a great area for on site camping.
The weather is great out there.

AFF is great for its proximity to the city and a great field, but for a large 3 day event I could imagine it getting quite crowded.
I never attended positive pitch so I can't give personal experience on that.
I did attend the mini 'wagga after party fun fly' that Dean and the crew put on and I had a ball.

An up, and also down side of a field so close to us Melbourne-ites is that yes it is close, but we will most likely be heading back to our own beds. The great thing of a big event, out of town is that it encourages people to stay local and close or even camp.
This gets people together and creates a great atmosphere.
We do after all want to show our international guests a good time.

I have attended and camped at events in Europe and seen the party, enjoyment and pure happeniness getting away for a whole weekend brings.
Although AFF would be great I personally think somewhere like Ararat is ideal.
Wagga is a touch far for a 'Melbourne' event.

      Jake.

Ararat would be ideal. It has the space for 4 - 5 flight lines

A prudent question would be to first ask the many clubs if they were capable and willing to host such an event

Good question @Fredo. Its a catch 22 basically this is just a request as to what the people would like. If the numbers are good, then the next step would be to ask the club if they wish to host. There is no fixed agenda at this stage and October is quite a few months away so there is plenty of time to organize. I will put anyone's hat into the ring (though i know where i would like it to be...).

I admit I heard about this a few weeks ago and hoped it would happen.

Mr Stacy is one of my favourite flyers so I'll be 100% sure to be there.

Think we'll have to make the trip down. When Brendan asked Rhys at Wagga who he'd like to see there next year, it was Kyle!!

If ZenRC is bringing him over then Wagga is probably a bit far away.

Ararat would suit me as it's just an hour up the road, but is possibly three or so hours away for the guys down in the south east.

Has anyone considered the State field? I'm sure that we, as paid up VMAA members, have the ability to apply for use of the field. It doesn't look like there is anything booked in for October at the moment.

Edit: Camping may be an issue though... I'll look into it.

Bah forget I mentioned the State field. There'll be too many rules and regs as the grandma plankers only allow flying between 0900 and 1800, so no night flying and I doubt they'll let us camp there either.

      Hi Guys, I do apologise.

Kyle Stacy visiting Melbourne was not supposed to be announced until we had confirmed the venue.

Thanks for the ideas though - there are a couple of suggestions up there I had not thought of and may yet come to fruition depending on how the various clubs feel about hosting a weekend with Kyle Stacy.
I am currently in discussion with several clubs, although to be honest AFF is my preferred choice should the committee approve it. For a number of reasons:
      1. Local
      2. Heli dedicated club
      3. Several flight lines and pits close to the flight lines.
      3. Great bunch of people working hard to promote the hobby so I'd like to support them.
It does have a couple of draw backs, mainly no toilets and limited generator power, but nothing that can't be temporarily solved ;)

I will update you all with dates once we have the venue confirmed.

In the meantime - Keep Flying and yes - Kyle Stacy is really coming to Melbourne !!! WOHOO !!!!!
