    Hi there,

I have a stock 500 DFC Pro with the AR7200bx on it. The tail was holding very good all the time (43% on the DX9) but as Im going into harder 3D now I noticed that the tail drifts (nose left) when I do hard tik toks for example.

I had the most drift when I pitched the heli full negative and than full positive, about 30 to 40 degrees. Than I started to do some changes in the parameter menu of the bx: Tail torque precompensation - tried every option. Heading lock amount - tried up to mid. The problem was still the same.

At least I gave more and more gyro sensibility on my DX9 and stopped at 63% as I noticed hard vibrations on the tail. But the drift on hard pitch pumps was still the same!! Nothing changed, not a bit.

The problem appears on 85% like on 95% throttle. Im flying with following V thottle curves:

    idle up 1: 85 80 75 80 85
    idle up 2: 95 90 85 90 95

My Pitch curves are straight 0% to 100% (+/- 13 degrees)

Has somebody an idea how to fix this issue?

    Kind regards,

Is the tail drifting and not centering again or is it just blowing out a little and returning again each time?

I'm also not sure if you mean it's only happening on your IU1 curve or on IU2 as well?

May I suggest Iggy that you replace the V curve with a flat 90 or 95 throttle. No curve or variation as your gov will take care of that. IMO you dont want the power to backoff in the middle and come back on again for 3d. After that, see how your tail performs. If it still blows out and comes back, turn up the tail gain by 5%. Fly and look at the effect. Keep turning the gain up untill it holds. I know @Mickstef was also having tail issues and he uses the gpro. we sorted it out mostly but there were still issues so he was going to update to the latest software. Perhaps @Mickstef you could advise @iggy on the appropriate next step as you actually have this gyro.

      Hi @smakmeharder

Thanks for taking care once more.

I was allready thinking about the governor mode. But there are lot people claiming the governor of the stock esc from Align so i didnt even try to fly it that way.

What do you think if I would go with a V curve like 85,82,79,82,85 ... What performance do I have to expect?

Otherwise I will buy a better esc....

So the same problem on the GPro..? Not good to read. I didnt maiden my 700 yet. My tailservo started smoking in programming mode. Seems like the servoarm which is suggested in the Align manual (!) caused some binding. Damn!!!

      Kind regards,

Two things can cause your tail servo to fail.. Binding in one direction and the wrong frequency set. I am guessing binding. Also the effect of the Vcurve compared to a flat curve? for 3d I would prefer flat curve any day. The reason being is that you have a plenty powerful motor so the RPM probably wont vary by a huge deal. I sometimes just run my speedy at 100%, on my 450 with no governor...lol.

But by using a V curve and dropping the power to the motor during maneuvers like tick tocks, this could cause the motor to bog because it cant recover quick enough during the transition from +ve pitc to -ve pitch.

Align make good helicopters and the servos are pretty good. However most pilots i know will swap out the gyro and the ESC and replace it with a castle or some other reputable brand and use either Vbar, Ikon or Beast X or Bravarian Demon....Anything that is reliable.

I know the governor in the castle is pretty good and generally castle are good middle of the road type speed controllers. Some people use some clone brands and swear by them with great sucess but I normally stick to what I know. The three brands i know of are yge, castle and kontronics. Kontronics are the best, they really are - but really really expensive and probably overpriced.. but as a governor and ESC they are incredible and there is no equal. Castle are middle of the road and YGE are sort of in between castle and Kontronic.

As for the Gpro, i know that @Mickstef has got two and it works ok on the 550 and he is having a few issues tuning it to the 700. I only used the align 3gx and align ESC once on my 550. The ESC blew up causing massive damage. I replaced it with a castle and the 3gx did some really wierd stuff during hard 3d manouvers. Since replacing both, not a problem.

So if you set up using the align esc and gyro, but there will be much more mucking around and its hard when you run into issues at your stage of flying. I mean it can really be upsetting because you have put so much time and effort into getting to this stage. Do you have any local friends who fly as well? sometimes having a support friend helps enormously at your stage, even if he is just opening a beer for you when things go wrong...

Yeah smackmeharder spent some time helping me setup my tail on the 700, I had the tail gain to low which was causing bounce back so thru turning it up and increasing hard stop I have got it pretty lock, not perfect but right stop is solid and left stop tiny bounce but still working on it as each time flying lately it is blowing a gale.
As for your tail drift iggy on the gpro the collective to tail menu solved my problem of tail torque due to hard pitch pumps. Not sure if this helps you

      Thank you guys!

I will try a flat curve without the governor on my 500. If this doesnt work I gonna swap out the esc for a castle or yge.

The tail servo of my 700 burned because of the to short sixfolf servo arm suggested im the manual. The endpoints were allready set. No binding im the tail assembly itself. I was holding leftstick for 20 seconds and thinking about the direction as the servo started to smoke. Now its broken and acts weird. If I would have used the fourfold servo arm like on the 500 this would never have happened. Im really pissed of. This is 180 dollar threw away!!

But Im happy that it has burned down now and not in the air..

      Kind regards,

Yeah it happens.. but if you heat high pitch sounds stop moving the servo.. chances are your binding.. but I guess you know that now...

My worst is frying my fbl before maiden by plugging the power in backwards

The servo didnt sound like it would bind anywhere. It moved easy and fast. There was no binding sound!!

Therefore I was very suprised and angry about this damage

Can't argue with that... and I like the new align servos...

      Back to topic,

Thank you very much guys. I didnt know that I dont need the governor for a flat gas curve on a 500. I was at the field today tried 80% flat and 95% flat and had to go about 10% up with the tail gain. Now its perfect!! Im so happy about that. THE SMAKING BEGINS...

      Kind regards,

With no gov. Bring the throttle to 100% flat. I've always run my 500 like this.

Why? I dont need 100% yet. Want to have more flight time with 80%. Works great. Motor and esc temp are fine.

      Kind regards,

I believe 100% is better for your speedy. it'll work more efficiently.

Hmm. Do you have any explanation for that so I can understand what Im doing?

Sorry mate. Someone else would do a better job of explaining it than me. I did read an article on this in a Heli mag. Can't remember which one.
It was very informative & went into the effects efficiencies of switching etc..
