Just putting it out there. Who fly's closer to themselves than 9 meters (the MAAA Rule) ? If you do, do you feel safe?

I often fly my 450 closer than 9 meters to my self. Rarely do i fly anything larger to myself. haw about you?

I also fly a small electric closer than 9 meters, however, that is only in the landing / take off phase, and hovering.

Otherwise with my full sized nitro's, I wouldn't even think about thinking about it.

I often do it without realizing because thats the way I learnt to fly. At least its not as bad as Min nearly smacking me in the face when h is 500s tail blew out during a tail in loop coming towards us

Yes Interesting point @Min What is the safe flying distance for a quad copter! I dont think a quad copter would kill you unless it fell from the sky and hit you on the head......But then again there are some bigger quad copters around to..

When I started I probably had my 450's at about 4-5m.... was always careful of helis as I understand what can happen..

However, now I fly further away than 9m all the time as i like to fly fairly big in the sky alot anyway..
Sometimes you can come a tad closer on a fly past, landing, etc but it's usually the result of the heli drifting a little closer than you initially intended... after all - that's the whole idea of the 9m so when you do go off course a little you have room to spare safety wise.

PS: Still 9m for multi-rotors as well.. don't ever underestimate the blades on those either..
They will shread you very easily.. if you don't get hammered to death by brute force you could die on the way to hostpital bleeding to death from some deep serious slashes..

I catch my nano as well in my hand.

For my 450s and above, I do my best to distance myself from 9 metres. I value the safety and I want this hobby to last as I enjoy it so much

I would love to say 9M at all times but I don't think any of the pro heli pilots out there keep to this. I do the best I can to keep to the 9m rule but every now and then I come in a little close, never too close but closer then 9. I have a 450 that I fly most weeks also and I treat it no different than it's bigger brother.

Something that helps out a lot I have found is flying at clubs that have well laid out fields showing you the 9M rule. Most clubs do not and it makes it so much easier to break the rule.

Maybe 5-6 meters at take-off, and then maybe 15-20 meters. A 700 can cover a heap of ground really fast

That's like 30 feet? No I break that rule... alot:rolleyes:

I am not sure why, but I do. I mostly break it with the 450s, but I do get my X5 and logo inside that barrier a few times on a flight, and I always land closer than that...

All I'll say @William is be safe, and if you fly here (in Aus), be prepared to push it out a few meters. I like the corner of heligods you have carved out, and I don't want to loose it (yes, I'm selfish)! We would be a poorer place without the Queen driven soundtracks of your flying style.

My mCPx and 130x: all the time. My 500 and 700: only during take off and landing. Maybe 20 feet or so.

Not me. Like most, takeoff and landings are the closest my helicopters are to me. But once in the air and in idle up...no closer than about 40 feet...12.192 meters.

I do fly my 450 a bit close at times, but now that i have a 700 it has changed my way of thinking for sure, lol
